As the Day of the Dead approaches, Puerto Vallarta is abuzz with preparations for its “Festival de Muertos Puerto Vallarta 2023.”

This vibrant celebration, set to take place from Friday, October 27 to Sunday, November 5, promises to be an extraordinary display of culture and tradition.

At the heart of the festivities is the unveiling of the “World’s Largest Catrina,” which currently holds the Guinness World Record. However, this year, the Catrina will don a magnificent new outfit, creating anticipation and excitement among both locals and tourists.

Christian Preciado Cázares, the municipal director of tourism, shared their enthusiasm, saying, “We’re planning contests, Day of the Dead altars throughout the city, and a grand parade. The procession will wind its way through the city, starting at the 5 de Diciembre cemetery and concluding at Lázaro Cárdenas Park. We encourage businesses and schools to join in and celebrate this integral part of our culture.”

The celebrations won’t stop there. A traditional charro maleconeada, featuring riders in their distinctive attire, will take place on October 30th. Puerto Vallarta aims to honor its cultural heritage, traditions, and roots.

Moreover, in addition to the record-breaking Catrina, monumental Catrinas from over 25 participating hotels are expected to grace the festivities, further enriching the celebration of Día de los Muertos.

This year’s Día de los Muertos celebrations in Puerto Vallarta promise to be a captivating blend of tradition and innovation, uniting locals and visitors in the spirit of honoring and celebrating the departed.”
